Global Engagement Falls to 20% as Managers Lose Their Premium

In 2025, global employee engagement dropped to its lowest level since 2020, reaching 20%. This decline is primarily attributed to a significant drop in manager engagement, which fell from 27% to 22% within a year. Despite this downturn, engagement levels remain higher than they were in 2009. Gallup's report highlights the importance of understanding the distinct indicators they measure: engagement, thriving, daily emotions, and job climate. Interestingly, regions like South Asia experienced the largest declines in manager engagement, suggesting organizational shifts. However, there's hope. Best-practice organizations boast an impressive 79% manager engagement, proving that reversing this trend is possible. The data suggests that when managers are engaged, they report fewer negative emotions and are significantly more likely to thrive.
